Born in Waitakere City and now living in Whangarei, Wilson has continually referenced the New Zealand coastline in her paintings. Water, Atmospheric Disturbance and Erosion are all elements that feature strongly. She asks the viewer to consider the concept of place and where we are in that place as being inseparable.
In the Absence of Words
Solo exhibition by Maree Wilson on show from 8 March 2018 – 7 April 2018.
This new body of work celebrates both the light and dark of elusive landscape memories: the moments before a storm kicks in, the wonder of the light coming from the black. Wilson’s smooth polished layers of ground and subtle washes of paint are frequently disrupted by holes that are gouged and drilled through the surface.
